What am I actually buying?
A large-format archival pigment print, in an edition of twenty-five, with a certificate of authenticity and an entry in the public register on this site. Museum-grade paper and pigment inks, produced by a professional fine-art printer.
Are they signed?
No — deliberately. Every print is numbered and issued with a certificate of authenticity, and every piece is entered in a register on this site that shows where all twenty-five are in the world. You can look it up any time, and so can anyone you ever sell it to. We think that's worth more than a signature.
What does “edition of twenty-five” mean?
Twenty-five of that image. Ever. When they're gone the file is retired and that image is never printed again — not in another size, not in another colour, not later.
What's the register?
A page on this site listing every piece in every edition and the city it currently lives in. Owners are never named and addresses are never shown — city level only, and you can ask to be left off it entirely. It means the provenance of your print isn't a piece of paper in a drawer, it's public.
How is the work made?
Images are developed digitally in the studio and produced as archival prints. They are not paintings and are never described as paintings. Whatever tools the studio uses are its own business — what's on the certificate is exactly what you're buying.
How big are they?
Large. These are made to be the thing on the wall, not something hung next to other things.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. Prints ship rolled and tubed, insured, direct from the printer. Shipping is calculated at checkout.
Can I return it?
Fourteen days from delivery, in original condition. Return shipping is yours. If it arrives damaged, that's on us — send a photo and we'll replace it.
Do you take commissions?
One kind. If you've had genetic or biomarker testing done, you can send us the numbers and we'll build a one-of-one piece from your own data. You keep your sample and your raw file — we only ever want the numbers. It is a portrait of you that happens to look like nothing you've seen. Write to the studio.
Who is NEOTENE?
A studio practice that doesn't attach a legal name or a face to the work. The animal the first series is about is named for a god who changed shape so he wouldn't be seen. We kept the habit.
